“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
There is a time for everything. I live in the northeast and our summer season is in full bloom. The flowers in my garden have reached their peak; the grass is spotted with tan colored strands after so many days under the blazing sun. I’ve even glimpsed some red hues staining the leaves of a few maple trees that dot the canvas of woods along my route to and from work. These changes throughout this happy, care-free season have made me look forward to all of the things that autumn has in store for us to enjoy.
Change is ongoing in my life. With all of the writing that I have been doing lately, my mind has reached back into the folds of my memory, and the images of past times unravel like bolts of lively patterned, solemnly solid, or strikingly striped fabric before my eyes. Some of those times have been more remarkable than others. I’ve certainly enjoyed wearing the happy outfits that were sewn together by my youth and the celebratory moments in my life. There is also something appealing, about those calm, solitary periods that remind me of a long-sleeved dress made from subdued colors and textures. Indeed there is a time for everything, and looking back, it seems that my wardrobe of life is not nearly complete.
The longer I live, the faster time speeds away from me. With that in mind, as long as I have time left, I intend to keep the door to my closet of life wide open, and to fill it with bold and vivid garments of activities that I will enjoy wearing for any occasion, for any season, for all time, for everything.
