The Human Senses…the most amazing abilities of the human body.

I think that some of the most amazing abilities of the body are the five human senses: to see, to smell, to hear, to taste and to feel.  Even when one or more of these senses are absent from the body, the others step in and make a way for an individual to experience his or her surroundings in a powerful way.  When the eyes cannot see, fingers become lenses, filled with vivid imagery.  When the ears cannot hear, the eyes and the nose speak clearly through the silence. It really is fascinating how the senses enhance how we experience life.

When I have the rare occasion to sit and relax, I love to sit in front of an open window, close my eyes, and clear my mind. It is during  those times that I am able to “see” so many things. My ears gather in the delicate motion of the sheer fabric of the curtain swaying to and fro in the breeze; it tickles my skin and draws a picture in my mind. My nose is soothed by the gentle fragrance of lavender wafting up to me from my garden, as it rides along the same breeze. My tongue begins to hunger for the taste of the cool waters that rush along the bubbling brook along the edge of our woods. Finally, and most generously, my body is drenched in a heavy blanket of sunlight as the brightest rays stream down upon me, tantalizing my eyes to take a tiny peak at the brilliance they offer.

Yes, the human senses are such wondrous gifts…I am so grateful for the privilege to be able to experience them all…I shall never take them for granted.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” (Psalm 34:8)
