In You I See beauty, one that’s waiting to unfold…

”Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.”  —Gerard De Nerval

In You I See

In you I see beauty, one that’s waiting to unfold.

The kind that I want to reach out to and hold.

In you I see brightness, the kind that lights up a room.

Your fragrance, your color, makes the whole world bloom.

In you I see softness, it’s just the quiet nature of you…

You are delicate yet strong, humble and considerate in all you do.

In you I see the type of person who reflects what perfection might be…

But it’s your own unique qualities that are precious to me.

Felecia R. Weber 2019, www.OntheWingofaDove.com

In You I See – There are many aspects that combine to make each of us unique.  And like the photograph above, when we focus on the beauty of any given individual, everything else around them seems to fade away.  Sometimes I envision the world as being one huge garden, with every person being a flower.  Can you imagine what that would be like?

When it comes to flowers, there are so many colors, so many fragrances, and so many different requirements for optimal growth.

Some flowers flourish in full sunlight, while others thrive in the shade.  Some need to be watered everyday, while others can survive during long periods of drought.  Some flowers produce hardy buds that can withstand harsh cold.  But the petals of others seem to shrivel up at the very possibility of a frost.

I could go on at length picturing my imaginary garden with its multiple varieties of flowers and the special needs that they all have.  The more I think about it, the more I realize how similar a garden full of flowers is to the world full of people.  And one thing that both the flowers in a garden and the people of the world require is attentive care in order to reach their full beauty and potential.

Indeed, we are all unique and we all have a purpose, but it is up to us to do what is necessary to bloom.  Is there something that you can do more of to enhance your life and the lives of others?  Just think of how the world would flourish if we all did our part!

Peace and love,

Felecia

A Beauty That’s Impossible to Hide

A Beauty that’s impossible to hide

“There’s a beauty that never changes, one that only evolves…it’s a beauty that’s impossible to hide.” FRW

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”  – Confucius

A Beauty That’s Impossible to Hide

There’s a beauty that’s impossible to hide…

It’s one that’s growing in you down inside.

No matter how you try to alter or display it…

There is no disguise that can betray it.

There’s a beauty that’s impossible to hide…

It can’t be taken; it can’t be belied.

For this kind of beauty; God has given to you.

Let is shine, let others see it, in all that you do.

Felecia R. Weber, Onthewingofadove.com 2018

A beauty that’s impossible to hide…With all of the emphasis on external beauty these days, it’s hard to know what’s in fashion. The trends constantly change; what we deem to be beautiful one moment, is far from that the next.  There is a beauty that never changes, though, one that only evolves…it’s a beauty that’s impossible to hide.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

We are all born with an inherent beauty, one that God has planted deep down inside each one of us.  That beauty may not be evident immediately, but unlike the ever-changing trends of the world, like God, it is constant and always there. When we take the time to dig beneath the shallow surface of our physical beauty that we see only on the outside, we’ll recognize the roots of our real beauty…and that’s a beauty that’s impossible to hide!

Peace and love,

On Time

On Time

TimeA Quote to Carry You

August 6, 2018

“Time is a created thing.  To say “I don’t have time” is to say, “I don’t want to.”  -Lao Tzu

Thoughts on time…

I am guilty of this very thing!  I’ve been at my childhood home for the past few months helping my mom, and today happened to be “house cleaning day.”  Call me crazy, but I do enjoy cleaning and it’s one thing that I can be sure to give me a sense of accomplishment when it’s finished.  Today, in addition to my other cleaning tasks, my mom asked me to check and clean a filter that is part of the vacuum cleaner.  To do this would require me to have to take the time to read the instruction manual to be sure the filter is cleaned properly, which I’ll admit is something I really did not want to do. So…my response to her request was, “Mom, I don’t have time to do that!”

Time…whether we want to take the time to do something or not, time is a precious resource that really should be used wisely.  We’ve all got an equal amount of time in a twenty-four hour period, but how much of it do we actually spend doing things that really matter or things that truly make a difference?  How we choose to use the time granted to us each day says a lot about who we are, and when we say, “I don’t have time” for one thing or another, we are really prioritizing what matters most to us.

When I replied to my mom that I didn’t have time to bother with her request, I was actually saying that I’d rather spend that time doing something that was more meaningful to me.  In general, our time is our own, but that doesn’t mean we are not to share it with others.  In fact, I often find that when I make time for others a priority, the time that I do spend on myself becomes even more valuable, and well spent!

Well, I’ve already decided that I will pull out the vacuum instruction manual and make sure the filter gets cleaned. Then I’ll not only have learned something, but more importantly, it will please my mom.  How about you?  When you think about how you spend your time, does it include a good balance of “me” time for yourself and “we” time for and/or with others?  When it does you’ll find that there is time for everything…and everything has it’s time.

Thanks for visiting…it’s good to be back!

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Wholeness

On Wholeness

wholenessA Quote to Carry You

February 22, 2016

“…Once a heart is shattered, it can never be the same.  One thing though, it can become better than it was before – it can become whole.”  Felecia R. Weber

On wholeness – The feeling of completion, to have accomplished whatever it is you’ve set out to do can be a most elating feeling.  What’s more is when you focus more on embarking on the journey rather than reaching your destination, what a marvelous adventure you have to enjoy.  Indeed, I believe wholeness, being full, lacking nothing, having all the parts…is a sort of a passage, a path which draws us from our emptiness to becoming complete.

I remember a few years ago, planning my twenty-fifth wedding anniversary trip to Italy for my late husband and me.  I’d never booked my own airline tickets prior to that, let alone plan an entire trip abroad.  Although the planning was painstaking at times, for I didn’t want any detail to be overlooked, our time away was flawlessly exquisite…we could not have asked for anything better, and we’d not want anything to have been different.  Now, my memories of our final trip together are more precious to me as the time between then and now grows.  They somehow become real when I need them to be…and I experience a sense of the wholeness we shared instead of the hollowness that I was left with when he passed.

That example only touches the surface of what wholeness truly is…but for me, it describes the principle of how one can travel from emptiness to wholeness…and how we go through that process determines the degree of completeness we attain.  For, once a heart is shattered, it can never be the same.  One thing though, it can become better than it was before – it can become whole.

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  Psalm 37:4

Peace and love,

On Loneliness

On Loneliness

lonelinessA Quote to Carry You

February 8, 2016

“For me, loneliness offers a silver lining that can only be discovered by those who have had the privilege to have been adorned by it.” Felecia R. Weber, Onthe WingofaDove.com

On loneliness – Those who’ve spent time with me would likely describe me as being quiet, shy and reserved.  After they really get to know me, “a little chatter box,” would definitely be a more suitable depiction of me.  I do love to converse with  others.  Not only do I get to learn from experiences that they share with me, but I get to impart some of what interests me to them.  Engaging with others in that way makes me feel vibrant and alive.  Contrastingly, like most people I imagine, when there is no one around me to talk to, the zest and excitement seems to fade away quickly, and loneliness threatens to move in.  Before long, like a tenant taking up residence, loneliness gradually begins to feel so comfortable, that it surrounds me even when I am in the company of others.  I haven’t painted a very pleasant picture of loneliness have I?  However, as with many masterpieces, the beauty of loneliness isn’t realized until after it has completed its work and has passed out of sight…

I’ll admit that these past many months that I have walked alone have been the most difficult steps that I have ever taken in my  life.  There have been so many things that I’ve experienced during that time that I pray to God I will never have to repeat.  Yet, there are many others that, as I look back, have become priceless, and I would not exchange them for anything in the whole world.  For me loneliness offers a silver lining that cannot be discovered by those who have not had the privilege to have been adorned in it.  Indeed there is a richness that can only be attained by becoming well acquainted with the solitude of being alone…and I believe that the intensity of loneliness is the part of being alone that makes the experience uniquely one’s own.  It is like the signature that is only inscribed on the canvas when the artist deems his work of art to be “finished.”  It is when one can view his loneliness as a beauty to behold, because of the profoundness  that was perfected in him through it, that loneliness is not that at all…rather, it becomes a fullness that, in my opinion, can never be emptied.

May your lonely days and lonely nights be filled as a canvas with dazzling, colorful lights.  And may you discover the most precious truth too, you will never, ever be alone, when you ask God to walk along side you…

“…because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.'”  Hebrews 13:5

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Fortitude

On Fortitude

fortitudeA Quote to Carry You

January 4,2016

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”  Psalm 18:2

On fortitude – Fortitude, defined as the strength of mind that allows one to endure pain or adversity with courage, can be interpreted in different ways.  To one person, it can mean having a will strong enough to get them through anything that threatens to impede their path.  To another, it may mean having the physical strength to withstand any ailment that would have otherwise undermined their health.  For me, fortitude has less to do with my own abilities when facing life’s choppy waters.  Rather, it has everything to do with God’s life preserving power.

Although this new year is only a few days old, it has brought with it a whole new set of challenges just waiting for me to dive into.  In fact, when I peek out at the turbulent waters stirring around me, I realize that no amount of my own fortitude will be enough to even lift me off the diving board.  It will take much more strength and sustaining power that I alone can muster to keep me from merely treading water to stay afloat.  Indeed, when it comes to tackling each lap of adversity that seeps through in the days ahead, I need to rely on the steady strokes of the Lord’s capable, all sufficient arms.  For through his guidance and wisdom, I can plunge into the stormy waters of the future with assured confidence that he alone will see me safely to shore.

When the floods of adversity burst into your life, rather that succumb to becoming submerged by our troubles, may you too seek the life preserving power of the Lord…for he is the only one who truly has the power to save you.

Peace and love,

Felecia

On the Unknown

On the Unknown

unknownA Quote to Carry You

October 5, 2015

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear and the oldest and strongest of fears is the fear of the unknown.”  H .P. Lovecraft

On the unknown – October is a month that brings with it an air of mystery.  Not only does it seem to usher in the sharp contrast of noticeably shorter days and a heavier mask of darkness during the nighttime skies, the undressing of the leaves from the trees all combine to create an eeriness to nature’s canvass.  Lately, I have found myself not wanting to venture outdoors once the sun starts to set, and I’ve turned on more lights indoors than I have during the past months.  I seek out the warming comforts of a hot cup of tea and nestling down under heavy blankets or wrapping myself up in my cozy sweaters, as if to shelter myself from the wiles of the outdoors.  I never know what to expect from one day to the next…the blazing sunshine of an Indian Summer day can fade into a blustery snow squall seemingly overnight.

Fear of the unknown has a similar quality.  When we face new situations or volatile times, we become uneasy and seek out the comfort of familiarity.  The unknown, no matter if it is something as common as the weather or as major as a life altering event, the mystery and uncertainty of not knowing what’s ahead can be frightening.

There is one sure way to face the unknown with confidence and security…his name is Jesus.  When we cast our cares upon him, the unknown becomes known, because he will reveal it to you perfectly in his timing and in his way.  When we yield to his love and care, there is nothing that we will ever face that he hasn’t already equipped us to handle.

“Fear not tomorrow, for God is already there.” Author Unknown

When the mystery and fear of the unknown threaten to creep into your comfort zone, may you always step out in the boldness of knowing that our Lord has already cleared the way…you need only follow him.

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Planting Seeds

On Planting Seeds

planting seedsA Quote to Carry You

September 28, 2015

“Every problem has in it the seeds of its own solution.  If you don’t have any problems, you don’t get any seeds.”  Norman Vincent Peale

On planting seeds – Every season brings with it winds of change.  With every change comes a host of challenges.  I believe how we choose to deal with challenges that enter into our lives, determines how we’ll succeed at overcoming them.  No matter how large or small a problem has the potential of becoming, once the seed is planted, the way we prepare and sustain ourselves through it, determines whether we will harvest a bunch of weeds or a beautiful bouquet of wild flowers.

This concept makes me think of how I go about preparing for the transition from summer into autumn.  As a crispness fills the air, and the days grow shorter, these changes in nature remind me of the harsh weather that is sure to follow in a few months time.  As I spend time deep cleaning my home and packing away the lighthearted leisure of summer, I begin focusing on the contrasting heartiness of autumn, filling the rooms with the deep, earth tones that it brings.  I begin pulling out sweaters and jackets to shelter myself from the daytime chilliness and layer myself with blankets to keep warm when the briskness of the cooler nights bites.

I liken all of these things to planting seeds that stout and grow, enabling me to face an entirely new environment as the new season continues to move in.  Like fertilizing and watering soil for healthy plants to develop, knowing that I have prepared for the transition of one season to the next, somehow gives me a sense of comfort and security that an abundant harvest brings.  When I am confident that I have everything in order and ready for the coming months of seasonal change, I can truly enjoy all of the beauty that blossoms and surrounds me.

Like summer fading into fall, when we get through one challenge, another one is there awaiting our attention.  When the winds of change begin to blow in your direction, may you go about planting seeds that will yield a most enjoyable and magnificent bounty for you.

Peace and love,

Felecia
