Every shade is beautiful – unique in its own hue, but what lies below the surface…that’s what makes you, you!

”Beauty is the illumination of the soul.”  —John O’Donohue

Every Shade is Beautiful

Every shade is beautiful,

No matter the color or hue.

The outer wrapping is just a layer,

The real treasure is hidden from view.

Every shade is beautiful,

Red, yellow, white and black.

No two persons are just alike;

Each one has a uniqueness to unpack.

Every shade is beautiful,

It’s yours, one only you can define.

The world sees only one dimension…

So let your own brightness shine!

Every shade is beautiful – Even though autumn signals the fading away of sunny, summer flowers and lush green vegetation, it is also a season full of colorful vibrancy!  Taking in the crisp hues of red, brown, orange and gold that paint the leaves still dangling from the trees and the hearty harvest of pumpkins and gourds, I can’t help but think of how stunning are the shades of the peoples of the world…everyone as lovely as the next!

There is no question that it’s the breathtaking variety of colors that make autumn such a delightful treat for our eyes.  I beleive, though, that there is so much more to the season that warms our hearts.  The same can be said of people…for our beauty is not simply skin deep.  Indeed, every shade is beautiful, unique in its own hue, but what lies below the surface…that’s what makes you, you!

Peace and love,

Felecia

For Those Who Walk Alone

those who walk alone

For those who walk alone – a poem dedicated in celebration of my precious one’s birthday, February 9th…Happy Birthday Steve…I will always love you.

For Those Who Walk Alone

For those who walk alone,

There is a privilege, grace and power.

Our strength has no limits, our wisdom abounds…

We walk in a realm all our own.

For those who walk alone,

It’s not a life to be pitied or unnoticed.

Our tears never weigh us down,

They cleanse our hearts, to enable a new harvest to grow.

For those who walk alone,

Remember always, you are never alone truly,

For although God walks with us, side by side,

He was there in the past behind us…and tomorrow, He is already there.

One of the most powerful memories that I have of my late husband happened on the night that he passed.  It seemed he’d been in dreamlike state throughout that day.  Amazingly, he walked around the house, up and down the stairs, traveled in the car to his doctor’s office for hydration, just like a “normal” day in his life as a cancer patient.  He was his usual soft spoken, good-natured, courteous self.  I knew in my heart that indeed that could be his last day here with us on earth, but it seemed like he was already somewhere between here and heaven.

As you can imagine, by that stage, the disease had taken its horrible toll on him.  He had wasted away to only a shadow of the man he’d always been.  That late afternoon, however, as he rested. stretched out on the bed in the haze of the dimming sunlight, there was a wholeness and serenity to him that I’ll never forget.  As he lay quietly on the bed, he stretched out his left arm and held it there for a long while.  He wore a slight smile on his face.  All I could imagine is that he was being gently ushered into his true home, to be with our lord.  As I stood next to the bed just gazing upon that peaceful sight, I closed my eyes, and through the lenses of hope and truth, I could see my Stephen, confidently walking toward the light, toward our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now as I continue to walk alone, here on earth, I replay that image in my mind…what calmness, what peace…what a treasure our Lord is for those who walk alone.

“However, as it is written:  ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human has conceived’ – the things God has prepared for those who love him.”  1 Corinthians 2:9

Peace and love,

A Beautiful Harvest

A Beautiful Harvest…the magnificent gift that you are to others never fades…

“For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.   I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”  Psalm 139:13-14

A Beautiful Harvest

Just think of how tiny you were, not much more than a thought.

Like a tiny seed that sprouts the most delicate leaves;

You were formed hidden in darkness…then you were born…

A beautiful harvest

As you began to grow and explore this amazing world,

Like petals of a flower, your talents began to blossom.

Your fragrance enhanced the world as only you can…

A beautiful harvest

As you matured through the seasons of your life,

Facing the storms, embracing the sun, enduring the harsh cold.

The magnificent gift that you are to others never fades…your life…

is a beautiful harvest

I love to nurture my garden and watch it grow as it changes from season to season.  It’s so exciting to see how a single blossom starts out as a tiny spec, pinched closed so tightly that it is hard to determine what type of flower it will become.  Then, little by little, as each bud absorbs all that it needs from the brilliance of the sun above, and the rich nutrients of the earth below, until they unfold into the most magnificent flowers.  When my garden is fully adorned with its colorful bouquets, indeed it brings forth a beautiful harvest.

I believe that a similar beautiful harvest happens, when we surrender our hearts over to an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ.  In the quietness of the soul, a miraculous transformation takes place.  There, through the work of the Holy Spirit, like seeds in nature, our hearts are reborn, nurtured and matured.  In time, the beautiful harvest of what God has planted within us is revealed to the world.

May you consider yielding your heart over to Jesus Christ…and may what he plants within you produce a beautiful harvest to share with those around you.

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Planting Seeds

On Planting Seeds

planting seedsA Quote to Carry You

September 28, 2015

“Every problem has in it the seeds of its own solution.  If you don’t have any problems, you don’t get any seeds.”  Norman Vincent Peale

On planting seeds – Every season brings with it winds of change.  With every change comes a host of challenges.  I believe how we choose to deal with challenges that enter into our lives, determines how we’ll succeed at overcoming them.  No matter how large or small a problem has the potential of becoming, once the seed is planted, the way we prepare and sustain ourselves through it, determines whether we will harvest a bunch of weeds or a beautiful bouquet of wild flowers.

This concept makes me think of how I go about preparing for the transition from summer into autumn.  As a crispness fills the air, and the days grow shorter, these changes in nature remind me of the harsh weather that is sure to follow in a few months time.  As I spend time deep cleaning my home and packing away the lighthearted leisure of summer, I begin focusing on the contrasting heartiness of autumn, filling the rooms with the deep, earth tones that it brings.  I begin pulling out sweaters and jackets to shelter myself from the daytime chilliness and layer myself with blankets to keep warm when the briskness of the cooler nights bites.

I liken all of these things to planting seeds that stout and grow, enabling me to face an entirely new environment as the new season continues to move in.  Like fertilizing and watering soil for healthy plants to develop, knowing that I have prepared for the transition of one season to the next, somehow gives me a sense of comfort and security that an abundant harvest brings.  When I am confident that I have everything in order and ready for the coming months of seasonal change, I can truly enjoy all of the beauty that blossoms and surrounds me.

Like summer fading into fall, when we get through one challenge, another one is there awaiting our attention.  When the winds of change begin to blow in your direction, may you go about planting seeds that will yield a most enjoyable and magnificent bounty for you.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Beautiful In Its Time

beautiful in its time

“Wild Roses and Irises,” 1887, John La Farge. Image from a page of the 2013 Desk Calendar, courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store

“He has made everything beautiful in its time…”  Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but one can hardly fail to see beauty in all of God’s creation.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”  Ecclesiastes 3:11

Beautiful In Its Time

Out of solemn darkness, from the night did he make;

the dazzling warmth and awesome brightness of daybreak.

God created everything…beautiful in its time.

From the heavens, a vast canopy reaching high above;

to the depths of the earth, nothing was made without His love.

From the graceful creatures that swim in the sea;

to the soaring birds of the air; how can it be?

God created everything…beautiful in its time.

From lush vegetation bursting with life;

a bountiful harvest brought forth without strife.

From the dust of the earth, and the breath of His soul,

God made man and woman; together with Him they are whole.

God created everything…beautiful in its time.

God created all things on the earth full of beauty;

to nurture and preserve them, that is our humble duty.

What a wonder, what a treasure, this place in which we live.

To my creator and my God, to you all gratitude do I give.
