The Best of Me – As with every struggle, disappointment, or challenge we face in life  -no matter how large or small- God’s grace is always sufficient for whatever we need…

The Best of Me

It’s been one of those days,

The kind that got me good…

No matter how hard I tried,

Couldn’t get to the things I thought I should.

These twenty-four hours

Sure got the best of me…

Worked from sun up to sundown,

One thing then another…no end could I see.

I threw up my hands,

Saying, “God, I don’t know what to do!”

And I kept plugging away,

Until all my work was through!

Yes, today was a day,

That surely got the best of me,

Lots of things got accomplished…

Looking back…now I see.

It’s funny how that happens,

when it seems all time is lost,

Then to realize, the best things in life

Come at a higher cost.

The best of me…some days are like that, it seems no matter how much effort I put forth, there’s even more left to do. One thing leads to the other, and well…you know how it goes!  When I’m in the midst of that kind of day,  the workload gets the best of me.  My focus is on all of the tasks that keep popping up begging for my attention…instead of the outcome that awaits me when I’m all done!

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.””  –2 Corinthians 12:

Like I wrote in my poem…I pummeled through until I got all of my work done, but it wasn’t until I was finished that I realized just how much got accomplished…and not by me alone.  As with every struggle, disappointment, or challenge we face in life  -no matter how large or small- God’s grace is always sufficient for whatever we need.  When I felt that indeed the day had gotten the best of me, that’s when God stepped in and provided His best for me!

When your day seems like it’s going to get the best of you, rememberyou need not worry about the tasks at hand, for God in His goodness can handle every demand.

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Sustenance

On Sustenance

on sustenanceA Quote to Carry You

August 24, 2015

“And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for thee…”  2 Corinthians 12:9

On sustenance – These days we are bombarded with all kinds of choices when it comes to food. One would think that whatever he eats, as long as it is food, would provide the nourishment that his body requires, right?  Well, we all know that that just isn’t true.  When it comes to sustenance, defined as something that sustains life or health, making the right choices definitely matters.  I have proven this time and again…when I indulge my sweet tooth a little too much, the effects that I experience afterwards are not so sweet.  More importantly, although those sugary treats do provide more than sufficient calories, they are empty calories that provide health destructing rather than heath restoring energy.

I find that this principle doesn’t only apply when it comes to providing sustenance for my physical body.  It can also be applied to my spiritual needs.  Whenever I indulge in focusing on things that are contrary to the Bible, God’s living Word, such as yielding to feelings of anger, prideful thinking, and selfish behavior, I am only filling my heart with empty promises.  The more I let myself continue in those ways, the more malnourished spiritually I become.  Sooner or later, I realize that I can never sustain a true sense of peace, contentment and joy apart from the sustenance that only God can provide.  And, indeed, his grace is always sufficient for me.

Are you seeking the kind of sustenance that will truly meet all of your needs?  May you find out for yourself the glorious ways in which God will do just that whenever you ask him to.

Peace and love,

Felecia

What Are You Hungry For?

what are you hungry for

What are you hungry for? When it comes to spiritual nourishment, what we feed our souls can be the most important meal we ever take in.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”  Matthew 5:6

What are you hungry for?  When it comes to food, that question is not hard to answer.  At least here in the United States, we are seemingly inundated with food to satisfy every type of craving our bodies can conjure up.  Healthy foods, junk foods, fast foods, gourmet foods, sweet foods, savory foods…you name it we’ve got it, and plenty of types of beverages to go along with them! For me, when I am hungry, and I crave something specific, no matter how ravenous I become and no matter what is offered to me, I will only be satisfied by that one food item that I crave.  Otherwise, I only fill up on something that is not what my tastebuds fully desire, and I end up full, but still craving something else.  And on it goes…

When it comes to satisfying the soul, the same process applies.  Whether we realize it or not, every one of us has a soul that can only be nourished by spiritual food.  Like when we continuously fuel our physical bodies with foods that supply too many empty calories and not enough quality nutrients, our health suffers and our bodies begin to breakdown.  If we do not start to eat the proper foods, sooner or later we begin to develop health issues, chronic or long term illness sets in which eventually leads to death.  That process sounds extreme I know, but it happens more frequently than we’d like to admit.  When that process takes place spiritually, the results are more dire than we realize.

“My grace is sufficient for you…”  2 Corinthians 12:9

In terms of our spiritual nourishment, how we answer the question, “What are you hungry for?” has much greater significance.  When we feed our souls with hollow spirituality, empty promises, or false hope, our spiritual hunger pains continue to grow because we’ve not fed our souls with what they truly hunger for.  We try filling our inner longing with material things, other people, or even ourselves.  The cycle goes on, yet we know deep down inside that hunger, that spiritual need still has not been met.  Being made in God’s image, we all have a hunger, a longing to be filled with spiritual food.  It is a hunger that is always there and it demands to be satisfied.   When we take the time to fill ourselves with what our hearts truly desire, we are not only fed, but as our souls are nourished, we become full and whole.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”  Psalm 34:8

What are you hungry for?  Are you hungry enough to taste and see how good the spiritual food that God has prepared for you is?  If so, my hope is that you will be fully satisfied in Him.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Power in Weakness

power in weakness

“Study Head of a Woman,” 1745, Jean Baptiste Greuze. Image from a page of the 2014 Desk Calendar, courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store

Power in weakness is not as strange as it may seem, for sometimes we are our most powerful when we are weak…

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”  2 Corinthians 12:9

I am sure you’ll agree that power comes in many forms, both physically and mentally.  It can be manifested in both positive and negative ways.  The same can be said about weakness.  As our bodies become tired and frail, or when we feel vulnerable and uncertain about a situation, we do not always make the wisest choices and fail to accomplish our goals.  With power and weakness being such opposites, how can we possibly gain one from the other?

The answer to achieving power in weakness has less to do with what we receive, but rather what we give away.  When I feel in control and on top of things, I seem to get into a groove and everything runs relatively smoothly.  The more I continue on in my own strength, the more self-reliant I become and that is fine, to a point.  All  of a sudden, and it inevitably happens, I am faced with some challenge that knocks me right to my knees.  At that point, I am literally in the perfect position to make a choice.  I can wallow in my weakness and receive more grief from whatever it is I am holding on to, trying to fix it myself.  Or I can give the problem over to God in prayer and receive His strength and power to go on.  Power in weakness?

Indeed, power in weakness is not as strange as it sounds, for sometimes we are our most powerful when we are weak.  In our weakness we can do nothing…but when it leads us to God, He has the power to do all things.

May your weakness lead you to seek the power that only God can give.

Peace and love,

Felecia
