On conversation, have words will travel…

The longer I live the more my hunger for meaningful conversation grows. To me it’s like climbing steps; each one takes me to a new height. There is always something new to learn, something new to share with others.  Sometimes having a good long chat can make me feel as though I’ve travelled to another part of the world.

“The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts.  Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world.  And they are not only happy in themselves, they are the cause of happiness in others.” (William Lyon Phelps)

I adore my  family and friends, and  it fills me to the brim when I get to be in touch with them in some way, and as often as possible. Yes, I enjoy my ” alone” time; we all need that, but engaging in dynamic conversation invigorates me – it makes me come alive. Sometimes when I am talking to someone about one of my passions, for instance, I can actually feel my pulse quicken, I speak faster and louder, and my body language becomes animated…it’s as if I am soaring! There are other times when simply conversing with someone else,  can transport me to another place without even leaving my chair. I think it is the fact that I am connecting with someone, sharing a part of me, what I am thinking, what I am feeling, while receiving the same from them, that makes those times so special, so incredible!

I hope never to run out of things to share or become too caught up in the business of life that my vital desire to connect and be in touch with others is squelched.  I welcome conversation, I look forward to the new places it takes me.  It fuels my steps and keeps me going. Hmmm,  I wonder, where the next one will lead me…
