“Dazzling, glistening, beaming, bright… Can you imagine a world without color?”
Mmmmmm, I am listening to the most delicious piece of music by Erik Satie, “Gymnopedi for Piano No. 1”, colorful and soothing. It causes me to reflect upon one morning, not too long ago, when I was awakened by the most brilliant rays of the sun filtering into the bedroom window. It was the Thanksgiving holiday. I’d just opened my eyes for the first time that morning. I happened to stretch my body, aligning it after a rumpled night’s sleep. I was very relaxed; not a care in the world. I felt so cheerful…thoughts began dashing in and out of my mind. My senses were filled and warmed…the hint of coffee brewing, lingered beneath my nose; the sun still streaming in, as if by a welcome invitation, through the picture window. It teased my eyes and their focus landed on my forearm. My dark, brown skin had transformed into a prism of dazzling color…it was like the full spectrum of a rainbow dancing merrily along the length of my arm! I squinted to catch this gorgeous pallet of color on my flesh…had I a brush, I am certain I could have painted a masterpiece from those radiant hues.
I’d recently heard someone say that color is simply reflected light. Like how a river glistens, shimmering shades of white, when the brightness of the sun gets caught up in its waves. Or how a droplet of rain that alights a petal, becomes a prism of vivid color when caught at just the right angle. Dazzling, glistening, beaming, bright. Words do not seem capable of truly describing this phenomenon. Awesome isn’t it? It’s hard for me to comprehend in many respects. Can you imagine a world without color? Neither can I.
May your world always be filled with the things that color it brightly.
Peace,
Felecia
