My Family Tree

My Family Tree

“Family Pride,” a portrait of my niece Leia Gabrielle

My family tree.  My family heritage means more than glancing at old photographs on the wall…it is a part of who I am.

“Like branches on a tree, our lives may grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.” (author unknown)

My Family Tree

(I dedicate this poem to my wonderful family)

A seed was planted long ago,

one man, one woman, how could they know?

That what they had started would ever be,

the beginning of my wonderful family.

As the branches sprouted, the generations grew,

like leaves of many colors, from many cultures they drew.

Each branch growing stronger, nourishing the others;

sharing talents and gifts between sisters and brothers.

Year after year, the family lives on for different reasons.

Adapting to changes as naturally as the seasons.

There is something that holds us together and we weather the tide;

all these things, family heritage, family love, family faith and family pride.

Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

May you always sense the richness of your own family heritage and honor those who’ve walked before you.

Peace and love,

Felecia

The Gift of Giving

The Gift of Giving

“To Give,” photograph by Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

The gift of giving…to give a gift that keeps on giving.

“Give and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Luke 6:38

The gift of giving, that phrase kind of sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it?  When we think of a gift, it is natural to think of it in terms of receiving it.  I think that is part of what makes special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, and various holidays so exciting.  This time of year especially, brings with it new beginnings where we celebrate the joining of two lives at wedding ceremonies, and happy endings as with all of those youngsters graduating at the end of their school year.  Gifts are showered upon those who are being honored and they receive them with open arms full of delight and expectation.  To receive a gift is truly a gratifying experience…but what about giving a gift?  Can giving be just a satisfying as receiving?

My answer to that question is a resounding YES!  In fact for me, I often times get more excited about giving a gift than I could ever about receiving one.  My heart fills up and I smile as I go about buying or preparing the item that I am going to give, no matter how large or small it is.  Perhaps part of it is knowing how much it pleases me when I am the recipient of some special token of appreciation, or celebration of an event.  Or it may be the warmth that I feel from the glow that lights up the person’s face when I place a present into their hands.  Whatever it is, giving is truly a gift in itself.

The gift of giving…how about you?  What is it that makes giving a gift for you?  What is the most significant gift that you have ever received?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

Generosity – What’s in a word?

Generosity

Generosity – What’s in a word?

Giving, fullness, abundance , love,

these are the things that come from above.

Charity, kindness, goodness, all three,

they make for a life full of generosity!

Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

What’s in this word for you?  If you can tell me please do!

For some reason, the word generosity makes me feel good.  It makes me feel as if something wonderful is happening.  When we are generous in our kindness towards others, well it makes the wisdom of Jesus’ instructions to “…do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Matthew 7:12) become alive.  It causes me to strive to make generosity a way of life.

May you live your generosity in a powerful way.

Peace and love,

Felecia

My Happiness, My Joy

My Happiness, My Joy

My happiness, my joy…it radiates like the sun; it’s like a flame of fire.

“You have put gladness in my heart.” Psalm 4:7

My Happiness, My Joy

My happiness, my joy,

I don’t always know how to describe it.

Sometimes it seems so far away;

it waivers from day to day.

My happiness, my joy,

It is more than just a feeling at times.

It makes me smile, and laugh, and sing aloud;

and I am like a vast, bright sky without a cloud.

My happiness, my joy,

When it’s in my heart it filters through my being.

It radiates like the sun; it’s like a flame of fire.

I feel free as a bird; as if I can soar higher and higher.

My happiness, my joy,

There is one thing about it that I know for sure.

It doesn’t come from the things of the world that surround me;

but rather, it comes from God’s love, which He gives so willingly.

Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”  John 15:11

May God’s love be the source of your happiness and your joy, today and always.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Let Freedom Ring!

let freedom ring

“Let Freedom Ring,” photograph by Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

Let freedom ring!  A tribute to our nation.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”  Hebrews 12:1

This past Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I had the chance to visit both Ellis Island and  The Statue of Liberty with two of our dearest friends.  We had a very enjoyable time, and although the weather was overcast for much of the day, visiting these two sites that are so much part of our nation’s history caused my heart to beam with a brightness that I find hard to describe.  I have seem countless photographs of The Statue of Liberty.  I have heard numerous stories, including that of my own grandmother, of those who have come through Ellis Island to start anew in America.  I have felt the beating of my own heart as I’ve raised my hand to my chest to honor our nation’s flag and the strength and freedom that it represents.  But there was something solemn and unforgettable about actually being surrounded by these monuments that makes the phrase “let freedom ring” come alive.

There is no mistaking that we are facing some of the most difficult times in our nation’s history.  While I will not mention them here, I think that we’ve all been met with challenges recently that have made at least some part of our lives a struggle.  My mind was full of such thoughts as we road the ferry out to tour The Statue of Liberty.  The grey skies in the photograph above depicts what I felt perfectly.  That made me think too, about how those individuals who travelled to Ellis Island, the “new land,” long ago must have felt; a cloud of apprehension surrounding an anticipation of better times.

As we approached the statue and I got to examine her more closely, my mood changed.  The skies began to clear and as I gazed up at The Statue of liberty, she seemed to emulate a certain grace, majesty, power and hope.  It was as though she were crying out, “Let freedom ring!”  Starting anew, building a life and rising above what may threaten to keep you down.  There is freedom in that, and there is life in being free to become what you strive to be.  That is what so many have done here in our nation thus far…may we continue to do just that long into the future…let freedom ring…loudly!

Happy Independence Day!

Peace to you, Felecia

America, you’re beautiful!  How thankful I am to have been born in such a nation as this.

America, You’re Beautiful!

America, your beautiful!

How fortunate are we.

To live in this nation bought with a price;

it is that blood that keeps us free.

Your beauty is unending, your richness is so vast.

Your land has yielded so much for us,

it is up to us to help make is last.

America, you’re beautiful!

How your history flows though the pages.

You welcome people from all over the world,

you have served them throughout the ages.

Through strife and victory, God has blessed us so bountifully.

We’ve trusted Him with everything,

may His grace cover us continually.

Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

Please join me as we approach the day of celebrating the birth of our nation, and reflect upon all of the goodness we enjoy in our beautiful America.

Peace to you,

Felecia

Let the Day Unfold

let the day unfold

“Today,” photograph by Marilyn Hill

Let the day unfold – each new day is full of wonder.

Each new day is full of wonder; no two are exactly alike.  A while back when I had the rare opportunity to sit down and reflect on things, I thought about how precious each day is.  We cannot know what is inside each one until we let the day unfold and live it.

Following are some thoughts on just that.  Come along with me and let the day unfold…

Imagine…a new day has just rolled over the horizon.  The sun tickles your eyelids until they give in and open wide.  Suddenly streams of yellow rays spill over the soft blue sky; a celebration!  Night has given way to the brilliance of the morning!

All of nature starts to come alive after a night’s slumber.  The fluttering chirps of the early birds fill the air; a sound that is so much nicer to wake up to than the alarm clock.  Soon it becomes a melody sung by a full chorus in flight and it beckons you to peer out of the open window to find out what they are singing about.

Breathing deeply, you take in the freshness of the morning deep into your lungs. Now your whole body is ready to face whatever it is the day has in store for you.  Your senses tingle at the excitement of what lies ahead.  Certainly there are the normal tasks that you expect to fulfill, but what about the treasures that are tucked away just waiting for you to discover them?  As each hour offers its precious gift of seconds and minutes to you…don’t let them tick by without making the best of each one!

When you’ve come to the end of the day’s journey, what will you do with the remnants of your adventure?  Share them with your family over dinner; write them down and savor the details of your favorite parts?  Whichever way you chose to end today, just remember another day is right around the corner…like a beautiful carpet wound up at the top of the stairs…ready to unroll and color each step of tomorrow.

A happy day to you!

Felecia

Let the day unfold

“Marilyn & Me” (at my birthday dinner). I dedicate this post to my dearest friend and Godmother, Marilyn Hill. Her love and encouragement, her constant thoughtfulness and caring for me was the inspiration for this post.
