The Gift of Giving

The Gift of Giving

The gift of giving…to give a gift that keeps on giving.

“Give and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Luke 6:38

The gift of giving, that phrase kind of sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it?  When we think of a gift, it is natural to think of it in terms of receiving it.  I think that is part of what makes special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, and various holidays so exciting.  This time of year especially, brings with it new beginnings where we celebrate the joining of two lives at wedding ceremonies, and happy endings as with all of those youngsters graduating at the end of their school year.  Gifts are showered upon those who are being honored and they receive them with open arms full of delight and expectation.  To receive a gift is truly a gratifying experience…but what about giving a gift?  Can giving be just a satisfying as receiving?

My answer to that question is a resounding YES!  In fact for me, I often times get more excited about giving a gift than I could ever about receiving one.  My heart fills up and I smile as I go about buying or preparing the item that I am going to give, no matter how large or small it is.  Perhaps part of it is knowing how much it pleases me when I am the recipient of some special token of appreciation, or celebration of an event.  Or it may be the warmth that I feel from the glow that lights up the person’s face when I place a present into their hands.  Whatever it is, giving is truly a gift in itself.

The gift of giving…how about you?  What is it that makes giving a gift for you?  What is the most significant gift that you have ever received?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

Generosity – What’s in a word?

Generosity – What’s in a word?

Giving, fullness, abundance , love,

these are the things that come from above.

Charity, kindness, goodness, all three,

they make for a life full of generosity!

Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

What’s in this word for you?  If you can tell me please do!

For some reason, the word generosity makes me feel good.  It makes me feel as if something wonderful is happening.  When we are generous in our kindness towards others, well it makes the wisdom of Jesus’ instructions to “…do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Matthew 7:12) become alive.  It causes me to strive to make generosity a way of life.

May you live your generosity in a powerful way.

Peace and love,

Felecia

My Happiness, My Joy

My Happiness, My Joy

My happiness, my joy…it radiates like the sun; it’s like a flame of fire.

“You have put gladness in my heart.” Psalm 4:7

My Happiness, My Joy

My happiness, my joy,

I don’t always know how to describe it.

Sometimes it seems so far away;

it waivers from day to day.

My happiness, my joy,

It is more than just a feeling at times.

It makes me smile, and laugh, and sing aloud;

and I am like a vast, bright sky without a cloud.

My happiness, my joy,

When it’s in my heart it filters through my being.

It radiates like the sun; it’s like a flame of fire.

I feel free as a bird; as if I can soar higher and higher.

My happiness, my joy,

There is one thing about it that I know for sure.

It doesn’t come from the things of the world that surround me;

but rather, it comes from God’s love, which He gives so willingly.

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”  John 15:11

May God’s love be the source of your happiness and your joy, today and always.

I Am

I Am

I Am…God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit…in all three, God is complete.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”  Revelation 1:8

I Am

I am the Alpha and the Omega,

I have no beginning nor have I an end.

To those who cry out to me for help;

peace, mercy, wisdom and love do I send.

I am the God of the universe,

all creation I have intricately made;

the seas, the skies, and all living things,

and to mankind, dominion over all have I laid.

I am supreme, almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing,

omnipresent, never changing, holy, and pure.

There are no other gods but me, the only one;

some day all the world will know this to be true for sure.

I am he who came down to earth as the Son of Man,

to save the world from eternal death caused by sin.

The one who offers the gift of salvation, free to all to receive.

I am the way, the truth, and the life…won’t you open your heart and let me in?

On the Greatness of God

On the Greatness of God

on the greatness of GodA Quote to Carry You

June 16, 2013

“It is God who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.” Jeremiah 10:12

Whether you believe that God exists or not, it is doubtful that anyone can have lived any length of time on this earth and not wondered how we came to be.  To me, that God made the earth and all of creation is fundamental to answering that question.  The world we live in although it may seem chaotic in many respects, is so intricately designed and ordered, and so much of it is beyond human comprehension…who but God could have brought it all into existence?  Nothing comes from nothingness…but from and through God, all things are possible.

Peace to you,

Felecia

Daddy (a Father’s Day tribute)

daddy

“Daddy and Me,” photograph of my Dad, Edward Hyford Myers, and me taken on my wedding day; the happiest day of my life.

Daddy (a Father’s Day tribute).  There are so many things that I wish to tell you Daddy, things that I’ll cherish forever…

Daddy (a Father’s Day tribute)

I’ve always been told that I look just like you,

with your skin such a rich shade of brown.

And my quiet, gentle nature, that comes from you too,

Daddy, those things make me smile, and never frown.

I remember the many special times we’ve shared when I was a child;

the times you took us fishing, and to the beach, and to the zoo.

It’s not so much what we did or where we went,

Daddy, what made them special, was just being with you.

I’m sure it wasn’t always easy, raising a family and all.

We three girls kept you and Mom busy; always being on the go!

It may not seem like I paid attention to what you’d tell me at times,

Daddy, rest assured, it was from you that I’ve learned so much that I know.

There are so many qualities that I see in and admire about you.

Your patience, your caring, your wisdom and versatility;

They all reflect your sincere faith and trust in the Lord,

Daddy, thank you so much for being such a strong example to me.

We are so much alike, in so many ways;

and even though we don’t always say much aloud,

I’ve always felt a closeness to you, a bond that will always be.

Daddy, I love you; and having you as my father makes me proud.

Where I Belong

where i belong

“Where I Belong,” photo graph by Felecia R. Weber 2014, OntheWingofaDove.com

Where I belong…there is much comfort and safety in truly knowing where that is…

I have been doing a lot of thinking about past times lately.  Given the new and difficult experiences I’ve had to face over these past several months, it appears as though my daily life has been turned upside down.   I am likely not alone when I say that I enjoy a certain degree of comfort and security in following a familiar routine, one where I have a good idea of what to expect from day to day.  It may sound odd, but now that each day has been a bit topsy-turvy, sometimes I honestly don’t know where I belong!

Where I belong…there is much comfort and safety in truly knowing where that is.  Yes, of course I know where that is in terms of who I belong to, my husband, my family; all of those whom I love dearly.  In terms of my daily life, however, sometimes the answer is unclear.  I am secure and confident in the many different roles that I play at home, work, church; handling those things that I am responsible for.  But when life takes me by surprise, when I am forced out of my comfort zone, then where do I belong?  The answer is clear…

“I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Where I belong is where my heart is…knowing that makes all the difference in the world.  My sense of belonging is complete when I am in the midst of the people and things that make my heart swell.  Being where I belong is more than a place; it is a state of being. It is when I feel a sense of vibrancy, calmness, safety, that no matter what is going on around me I know that being there is exactly where I am supposed to be.  It is not something that I’ve found on my  own, rather, it is where God has placed me…it is where I belong.

Peace to you,

Felecia

Safe and Secure

safe and secure

“Beagle Puppy,” graphite pencil drawing by Felecia R. Weber, OntheWingofaDove.com

Being safe and secure…two things we never need to worry about when we put our trust in God; for his provision is sure.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing…I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”  Psalm 23:1,4

Safe and Secure

Safe and secure,

What it means to me;

not being afraid, of what the future holds for me.

To know that I truly belong;

when I am accepted, even when I may be wrong.

Safe and secure,

Having love shown to me;

being valued and wanted in ways I can see.

Having all that I need;

to live, to be fruitful, to learn and to take heed.

Safe and secure,

Indeed, I’ll always be;

I can be nothing less, because God is here with me.
