I often find that music without words soothes my soul to a far greater degree than when lyrics are added,  Quite honestly, I simply find the words to be distractions.   But the pure sound of an instrument being played, with all of its richness and clarity; that sparks the flame that causes me to glow.  That is what hope is like to me.  It doesn’t necessarily change the circumstances; it doesn’t necessarily lift the burden.  It does inspire me to move forward, even when I know not what is ahead of me.  It gives me the courage to face anything that clutters my path.  It gives me a melody who’s beauty drowns out any unpleasantness that may surround me.

Peace of mind…when your world seems out of control, what is it that keeps you grounded?

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

“Stop the world, I want to get off!”  Ever have one of those moments?  Just when you think you’ve got it all together, it all seems to fall apart?  Anxiety mounds up and you can’t even find the horizon…let alone see beyond it.  Life is not easy and circumstances are not always how we’d like them to be.  I haven’t painted a very pretty picture have I?  But isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder?

Exactly…

Peace of mind is not dependent upon circumstances.  It is not even something that one can conjure up by thinking positively really.  No, peace of mind is far more than that.  Peace, defined as a state of tranquility or quiet, is pure.  To me having peace of mind implies that there is something solitary, something whole, something holy that causes it.  When my mind is troubled,  it is full of complexities that make it impossible to think definitively.   It is only when I let go and focus on God’s love, mercy, provision, and power, am I awash with the beauty, serenity, and quietude of peace.  Nothing can break the bonds of peace, because when you trust in the source of true peace, nothing but true peace can prevail.

A mind at peace is perfection pure and true…so let go and let God’s peace fully cover you.

A Quiet Time

I need to get away, I need to rest.

A quiet time will spawn in me my best.

I need to stop and take a break…

a walk in the woods or a swim in a lake.

It doesn’t matter for how long, a day or a week;

it is just a quiet time; that is all I seek.

Too much busyness fills my days, to do, to do, to do.

On Solitude

On Solitude

It is not often that I get a chance just to sit still and be silent…to shut out the world and enter into a realm where there are no distractions, only luxuriant quietness.  I believe that solitude is essential to life.  It gives the body, mind and soul a chance to rekindle all that it loses during the busyness of our modern world.  When I get to experience even a small bit of solitude, it makes me feel transparent, as though when I close my eyes and breathe in the stillness of the moment…I have vanished and reappeared refreshed and renewed.

May you find some space for solitude today…refresh, restore, renew!

It’s all in the family…they say that blood is thicker than water, and when it comes to love, it’s all in the family.

It’s all in the family…love that is!  Have you ever thought of where love comes from?  Can you remember the first time that you’ve ever experienced the warm and cozy feeling that only genuine love can produce?  For me, I can honestly say that my very first acquaintance with true love was made right amongst my own family.  When I am with my family, it seems like I am oblivious to the outside world.  I suppose the best way that I can describe how I feel when I am surrounded by my loved ones, is like snuggling up inside a big fuzzy blanket…it’s one of the best feelings in the world!

The love that exudes from a family creates a bond between its members that can never truly be broken…we are always connected.  Whether you get to be with your family frequently or if time and distance only allows for visits few and far between, the love that flows from your hearts seals any gaps and brings you together with your loved ones on a different level.  The good times and the bad times, the memories that have been made and played out by each member of the family during times spent together are woven tightly…hmmm, like the fabric of that fuzzy blanket I’ve mentioned earlier.

Living together, caring for and sharing with each other, being there through thick and thin, these are all significant forms of affection that portray the depth of the kind of love a family experiences and understands.  They are not carried out by force or by burdensome effort.  Rather, they just happen within the family…it is family love in action.

I realize that not everyone has had the opportunity to build upon and experience the genuine, coveted love that flows freely to link and keep a family together.  But I challenge those who have, to try spreading some of their own special bonding love to those around you.

It’s all in the family…love that is; 

It’s a bond that’s genuine and true.

It is my hope that all may experience it…

And may the blanket called”family” always cover you.

There is something about being with my family that makes me feel so full and content, as if nothing else in the world matters more than being with them.  I suppose it does have to do with the fact that we truly do belong to each other.  We are connected with a bond that transcends any distance or time that keeps us apart; we can never truly be separated.

The Gift of Giving

The gift of giving…to give a gift that keeps on giving.

“Give and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  Luke 6:38

The gift of giving, that phrase kind of sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it?  When we think of a gift, it is natural to think of it in terms of receiving it.  I think that is part of what makes special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, and various holidays so exciting.  This time of year especially, brings with it new beginnings where we celebrate the joining of two lives at wedding ceremonies, and happy endings as with all of those youngsters graduating at the end of their school year.  Gifts are showered upon those who are being honored and they receive them with open arms full of delight and expectation.  To receive a gift is truly a gratifying experience…but what about giving a gift?  Can giving be just a satisfying as receiving?

My answer to that question is a resounding YES!  In fact for me, I often times get more excited about giving a gift than I could ever about receiving one.  My heart fills up and I smile as I go about buying or preparing the item that I am going to give, no matter how large or small it is.  Perhaps part of it is knowing how much it pleases me when I am the recipient of some special token of appreciation, or celebration of an event.  Or it may be the warmth that I feel from the glow that lights up the person’s face when I place a present into their hands.  Whatever it is, giving is truly a gift in itself.
