A Constant Example – We all need someone to guide us from time to time…

“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”  Francis of Assisi

A Constant Example

We all need someone to guide us from time to time;

A constant example to look to when we face something new.

We all seek someone to help us along the way;

A constant example to encourage us to take the next step.

I am grateful for those who have done so in my life;

They are constant examples through whom God consistently leads me.

Felecia R. Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove.com

I can think of many people who have served as constant examples in my life.  They’ve been the ones to whom I’ve turned to for guidance when I didn’t know what to do.  They were the individuals who’ve provided spiritual and physical support to me when I’ve needed it the most.  Although I am grateful for each and every one of them, I would like to give a very special thanks to the constant example that God has provided for me in my late husband, Stephen.  The excellence and consistency in character that he demonstrated throughout all of our years together, and especially in the example I’ve described below, will always serve as a goal for me to strive for…

During the latter stage of Steve’s illness when we were returning home from our last trip to visit with our family together, our connecting flight was cancelled due to a storm back on the east coast.  As we learned of the disappointing news, I could see the pain and distress in Steve’s eyes.  Although he just sat quietly as I made arrangements to get us booked onto another flight, which meant landing at a different airport and having to rent a vehicle to travel back to the airport that we’d originally flown out of so we could pick up our car, we both realized all of the extra logistics would add several hours to the last leg of our trip home.  That did not even include the drive from the airport to our home.  Steve was already exhausted and he had taken the last of his pain medication, which would not provide relief for him much longer.  To be honest, at that point, I was feeling so overwhelmed, angry and frustrated that I wanted to cry.  It was then that Steve reached out, gently took hold of my hand, and assured me that everything would be fine because God had the situation all under control.  My heart quieted and I sat there  marveling at the calm, stoic strength demonstrated by my constant example.

After a rough flight, waiting in long lines and an uncomfortable ride in the airport shuttle, we eventually made it to the rental car facility.  By then, I had reached the end of my supply of patience.  My feelings of frustration returned when I learned that I would need to drive a mini-van, the smallest vehicle that was available at that time of night, in the heavy rain, and on an unfamiliar, winding parkway for quite some distance.  Again, at that moment, Steve, my constant example calmed me.  While he waited for me to finalize the rental car transaction, I noticed that he was leaning over the counter with his eye closed and his head downcast in his hands.  I couldn’t even imagine the pain that he must have been experiencing, given his pain medication had worn off long ago.  When the representative courteously offered Steve a bottle of water and asked if he would like to sit down, Steve merely answered, “No thank you, I am just not feeling very well,” and he continued to wait quietly until we were all set and ready to continue on our way.

By the time we got home, and had settled into bed, Steve thanked me for taking such good care of him and for making out trip home go so smoothly despite the delays.  At that, I did break down and cry…not tears of frustration, but tears of gratitude for my dear husband, my precious constant example…I thank God every day for such a gift.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Dag & Che – Getting Along

getting along

Meet Dag (left) & Che (right), the furry, four-legged “grand-dogs” of my dear friend Claudina (Dini) Owen

Dag & Che – getting along, that’s what they do; the two of them together, is a friendship tried and true!

“Don’t walk in front of me…I may not follow.  Don’t walk behind me…I may not lead.  Walk beside me…just be my friend.”  (Anonymous)

Dag & Che – Getting along

Dag & Che – getting along, that’s what they do.

The two of them together is a friendship tried and true!

getting along

Dag – Posing pretty!

getting along

Che – What a good boy!

Both Dag and Che have unique stories to tell,

But they are truly best pals, they get along so very well!

Dag can be feisty, but deep down she’s so very sweet.

getting along

Dag – All smiles …or snarls?

Che, is playful and one of the friendliest dogs you’ll ever meet.

getting along

Che – Chilaxin’!

Dag & Che – getting along, best friends they’ll always be.

The companionship they share shows how wonderful friendship can be!

I had the pleasure of meeting these two four-legged friends a couple of months ago.  Both Dag and Che are rescue dogs, and the stories of how they both became welcomed  additions to Dini’s family are truly heartwarming.  There is no mistaking that both dogs have their own unique quirks and personalities; but getting along is something that they do so well!  I can see why their “grand-dog-mom” Dini loves them so much!

“Calling all dog lovers!”

If you have a four-legged furry friend that you’d like to have  featured in a  poem on my blog, email your cutest pictures and a short bio to me, Felecia at frosew04@gmail.com.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Peace and love,

Felecia

I Promise You This

I promise you this

Photograph by Felecia R. Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove.com

I promise you this – when you need me I’ll always be there…

“But before all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let you yea be yea and your nay, be nay, that ye do not fall under judgment.”  James 5:12

I Promise You This

I promise you this,

When you need me, I’ll be there.

In times of trouble, whenever you call;

No matter what the circumstances, please know that I do care.

I promise you this,

In those times when others simply don’t understand,

When they can’t be bothered or don’t show up.

You can always count on me to be there, to lend a hand.

I promise you this,

I may not be with you physically, day by day,

Life has a way of pulling us in many directions.

But in the end, when it comes to being with you, I will make a way.

Felecia R. Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove.com

Let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no; keep your promises and do what you say.  For others are watching to see if your word is true.  Let them see your integrity always shine through…may this be what you strive for, never anything less.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Always Looking Up

Always looking up

Photograph courtesy of my nephew Zachary T. Weber

Always looking up literally gives me the lift that I need to accomplish what I have set out to do…

“Let us consider the way in which we live our lives.”  Henry David Thoreau

Always looking up – Have you ever considered how you actually live your life?  Are you always looking up? Or are you always looking down?  Of course, the majority of you will answer, “sometimes I look up and sometimes I look down”…and you are wise to do so.  My question however, goes a bit deeper than that.  For me, always looking up has more to do with my attitude about life rather than simply peering into a bright blue sky.  Although, a bright, sunlit sky can help motivate me to make more positive choices, no doubt.

It is interesting how looking upward, or taking a step forward for that matter, seems to signal positivity or expectancy of something good.  I’ve noticed that I often look up into space when I am concentrating on a particular thought or trying to focus my attention solely on one idea.  Whether I’ve dashed upstairs to get something, and forgotten what it was I went to retrieve once I’ve gotten their, or if I am trying to find the words to portray an idea in a post, looking up seems to lift me to a different level.  It is as though I am somehow transported to a place where I can clear my mind and find exactly what I am looking for.  Always looking up literally gives me the lift that I need to accomplish what I have set out to do no matter how large or small the task is.

When I am having one of those days where things seem to keep piling up and weighing me down, just bowing my head and caving in can be very tempting.  However, that will not keep things from continuing on their downward spiral.  In fact, they will likely bring me down even further.  When I am faced with such situations, I find that always looking up, to say a quiet prayer or to let out a desperate cry for help, puts me in the perfect posture to receive the help that I need, (which always comes from God above anyway).

I’ll ask the question again…going forward in life, how will you live, always looking up, or always looking down?  The answer may be challenging…may you soon realize, as I have, that always looking up is always best.

Peace and love,

Felecia

Through the Fire

Through the fire

Photograph courtesy of my niece Leia Gabrielle

Through the fire, tried and true…how will you go through the fires that have ignited in your life?

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”  Isaiah 43:2

Through the Fire

Through the fire, tried and true…

the path that life has forged just for you.

Its heat seems unbearable,

how it scorches and burns.

There seems no way to quench it,

it’s all consuming, above any other concerns.

Flames ignite into a ferocious blaze.

Soon it surrounds you like a maddening daze.

Suddenly, with only seconds to spare,

you are swept from the rage that has caused such despair.

When you open your eyes, your heart now steady and calm,

a peace washes over you like the sweetest balm.

Your scars have faded, your wounds are now healed…

through the fire, many truths to you God has revealed.

Felecia R. Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove.com

Unpleasant circumstances may start out as flickering little annoyances, but if we let them, they can grow into uncontrollable flames that seem to engulf our entire lives.  The harder we try to contain the fiery elements of the situation, the more rapidly they ignite into something we cannot possibly extinguish on our own.  At that point we have two choices.  We can go through the fire alone and risk being burned up in the process.  Or, we can cry out for help, be rescued and brought to safety.  Although the right choice seems obvious, impatience, stubbornness and pride can make all the difference in how we choose to go through the fire.

When the flames of life intensify and surround you…how will you go through the fire?

Peace and love,

Felecia

I Am Yours, You Are Mine

i am yours

I am yours, you are mine…there is something comforting and confirming about belonging to that special someone.

“In every friendship hearts grow and entwine themselves together, so that the two hearts seem to make only one heart with only a common thought…”  Fulton J. Sheen

I am Yours, You Are Mine

I am yours, there’s no need for you to worry…

here I’ll be, here to stay, never will I leave you.

I am yours, I belong to you…

to no one else on earth will I say that.

You are mine, my forever love…

for you fill my world completely.

You are mine, to protect, to behold, to cherish…

life without you is no life at all; for you to me are essential.

Felecia R, Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove,com

‘Tis the season…for weddings that is!  In fact, I’ve received three wedding invitations recently.  Indeed, love is in the air and it’s fragrance is so alluring.  I am yours, you are mine…there is something comforting and confirming in belonging to that special someone.  Hearts beating wildly; fluttering eyes snatching a quick glance; smiles promising the pleasure of a kiss.

May all those couples who will soon be joined together in marriage experience true love and fulfillment, now and always.

“…I have been privileged to have experienced such splendidness in my life once upon a time…the majesty of that time still lingers in my memories.”  Felecia R. Weber, OntheWingofaDove.com

Three Little Words

Three little words

Photograph courtesy of Martin Watson

Three little words…made all the difference to her world.

“When he wanted to take her picture, he didn’t tell her to smile, but he told her ‘I love you’ and her smile was more beautiful.”  Author Unknown

Three Little Words

There’s something different in the way she walks;

there’s a buoyancy, a lightness in her every step.

She giggles at the silliest things;

her smile radiates the space around her.

Nothing troubles her; her feet seem never to touch the ground.

What is it? What makes her whole being sparkle?

Three little words, “I love you,” that were spoken to her;

made all the difference to her world.

Felecia R. Weber 2015, OntheWingofaDove.com

It’s amazing to me how three little words can emit such powerful feelings of excitement, create such a sense of belonging and purpose, and fulfill so many  desires longed for, that they cause the recipient to beam.  Few things in life can cause such a reaction.  Few things can instill an intensity of emotion that can actually stimulate an illuminating vibrancy that is evident both physically and mentally.  “I love you,” three little words; that’s all it takes.

Don’t take my word for it…say those three little words to the one you love and find out for yourself.

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Intimacy

On Intimacy

leisureA Quote to Carry You

June 8, 2015

“Sometimes the only way the good Lord can get into some hearts is to break them.” Fulton J. Sheen

On intimacy…By definition, intimacy is a relationship marked by acquaintance or familiarity.  It is something essential, innermost, personal and private.   It is the foundation upon which close friends can build a lifetime of shared experiences.  Intimacy has a way of touching our hearts so profoundly that it can be one of the most valuable treasures that life can offer us.

Although having an intimate relationship with another is a most wonderful thing, it is not an inseparable one.  Be it by death or some other circumstance, it can end whether we want it to or not.  When the bonds of intimacy between individuals are broken, we needn’t despair.  When it comes to true intimacy, which I personally describe as being the deepest and purest love that anyone can ever experience, God is the answer, for his love is complete.  Having created us, he knows every intricate detail about each of us.  He is faithful and promises to never leave nor forsake us.  He knows how to fulfill our heart’s desire, and he longs to do just that…forever,  I can’t think of a better example of intimacy than that, can you?

Peace and love,

Felecia
